Choosing the Best Triathlon Wetsuit

If you are in the market for a triathlon wetsuit, but you don’t have a clue about the difference between one wetsuit and another, here’s a few helpful tips about finding the right one for you.

Wetsuits offer many advantages, but they can also create some limitations. You’ll need to figure out which model will work best for you.

Wetsuits for triathlon come in different forms. There is the full-body wetsuit, which is designed to cover the full length of your arms and legs, all the way to the wrists and ankles.

Another form of triathlon wetsuit is called the “full John.” This model is similar to a vest on top, leaving the arms free, and covering the full length of the legs. Then there is the, “half John” Which is sleeveless and is much like a pair of knee-length shorts on the bottom.

Many people looking for a triathlon wetsuit sometimes confuse them with “skin suits.” Olympic swimmers often use skin suits. They can also be used for triathlon races. They are designed in such a way that the water slips around the body faster and gains slightly more buoyancy.

Wetsuits are legally allowed when the water temperature is below 78 degrees. Skin suits are designed for water temperatures above that level. Whether you use a triathlon wetsuit or a skin suit really depends on the temperature of the water.

Some people, those who naturally feel hot, will probably find a wetsuit or skin suit to be rather uncomfortable in waters that aren’t really cold. This is one of the disadvantages of a wetsuit or skin suit. They can make you heat up, especially if you are in a long triathlon race like the Iron Man.

But if you are a person who naturally feels cold, or if you are swimming in water that is in the 50’s Fahrenheit or 10-13 Celsius, a triathlon wetsuit will serve you well.

One of the other factors to consider when shopping for a wetsuit is how much flexibility it has, especially in the shoulder area. Most triathlon wetsuit brands are thicker in the torso region (the material is about 5 mm thick) and thinner in the shoulder area (about 1.5 mm thick).

The fact that most wetsuit brands, are thinner the shoulders, means that it won’t limit your movement as much when swimming. So be sure to buy a wetsuit that is made to provide you with free mobility.

Many people also wonder which brand of triathlon wetsuit is best. Frankly, there are many great brands out there. The key is to find the triathlon wetsuit that best fits you. So you’ll need to try them on. A good-fitting wetsuit will be very tight everywhere on your body, but especially in the armpit and groin area.

If a wetsuit is loose in these areas two things will happen. First, the loose material will rub on your skin and cause chafing. Second, the loose areas will fill up with water and slow you down as you swim.

Keep these factors in mind as you shop for a good wetsuit and you’ll be good to go.

Triathlon Nutrition Made Easy

Physical activity is definitely important if you’re trying to be healthy, but it’s just as important to include proper nutrition in your lifestyle. This is even more critical for anyone who’s training for a triathlon.

Food is fuel, and when one of the things you should be doing when preparing for a triathlon is making sure your giving your body the right fuel. Changes to your diet may be in order to make sure that you’re getting the right triathlon nutrition, and you may even want to consider taking supplements.

You’ll have a far better chance of succeeding if you eat the right foods and consume the proper amount of calories, minerals, and vitamins. Your body needs to be in tip-top shape if you really want to succeed. That means you’ll need to be in good shape, follow the proper training regimen, and do what you can to avoid any injuries.

One of the things you need to do when you’re training for a triathlon is to feed your body what it needs to perform at its best. Some people blow off triathlon nutrition because a lot of calories are getting burned off as they train. While it’s true that you’ll need to take in a lot of calories for your training, you’ll be far better off when you eat wholesome foods than you will if you mostly eat junk.

On the other hand, many thriathletes understand how important it is to follow the proper triathlon nutrition, which is why they consult professional dietitians. Talking to a professional dietitian will help you determine the best nutrition plan for you while you’re training.

More than likely, a dietitian will recommend a diet that’s most appropriate for someone who engages in physically demanding activities– like training! He’ll probably suggest that you eat plenty of fresh, wholesome foods that are full of minerals and vitamins.

Grains, lean meats, vegetables, and fruits are all wholesome foods that will give your body the energy it needs to keep on training. Relying on pricey drinks and energy bars can get really expensive, so you’ll do better if you plan meals that contain these foods.

Stay away from foods high in sugar and fat when you’re training for a triathlon. Your training will be negatively affected when you consume a lot of junk food. You should also steer clear of alcohol, because that will leave you dehydrated.

You’ll achieve your goals quickly when you incorporate proper triathlon nutrition as part of your training!
